Hemingway's Caribbean Cafe

Bad experience - was on the island for the day with the family. My wife birthday was the following day, therefore decided to go for a meal to celebrate. Entered the building 5:20pm, by 7pm we was still waiting for our food. As we had to meet our taxi at 7:15pm we had to approach the manager (who seemed dis-interested) and had to take the food away with us. Disappointed, especially when you have kids who want to eat. The restaurant wasn't too busy either so no real reason for food to be this delayed.

The atmosphere is good, the service excellent and the food well crafted
There is a reasonable accomodations for vegetarians. The cocktails were good. It is designed for the tourist so be relaxed. Take in St John's if you have a window seat.

My family and I ate here for lunch and left hungry. The sweet potato fries were over cooked and the chicken wrap was underwhelming. We dined at many locations on the island and unfortunately this was not one of the better experiences. Definitely geared towards people coming off cruises for a 1x experience. Great view from balcony.

I was craving Caribbean food and this hit the spot. The only thing missing was jerk. My fiance wanted jerk chicken but they didn't have any only a jerk chicken wrap.

Terrible service. The food takes too long. The quality of the food is good and the flavor is 7/10. But the staff was rude and the waiting time for the food was awful. There are more places at the are. Wifi just works inside and it’s not fast

Excellent staff and service. Thank you Latisia (hope I spelt your name correctly) for taking care of us. The food was flavourful it has stiff competition with the amazing local flavours at first choice or Epicurean. Besides that it was quite pricy at a 160 USD for two before gratuity. We got a non-alcoholic drink each, one appetizer, two seafood mains and a dessert.

Was not worth the 75 minute wait for a sandwich. Other customers who arrived after us, were getting hot food quicker than us. No apologies made for the wait.

I always enjoy trying to find small or quirky places to try local cuisine and when our ship stopped in St. John’s, Antigua I figured I’d have lots of restaurant options.

Just outside the neat and somewhat expensive cluster of cruise shops was the rest of downtown, with lots of really interesting restaurants and local shops.

I wandered up the steep and fairly narrow stairs to Hemingways Caribbean Cafe, which as the name implies has some direct connections to Papa Hemingway, who used to visit the place.

Unfortunately, they were out of the conch fritters, which I really wanted to try, as well as one of the local beers, but the manager came out to suggest a couple other options, specifically the fresh pumpkin soup, and lobster eggrolls. Taking her advice, I tried both, and while the pumpkin soup was good, the lobster eggrolls, usually on their dinner menu, were unbelievable and delicious! Flavorful, perfectly cooked, and with an amazing taste and texture, if I hadn’t filled up on the soup, I would have gotten a second order. These were some of the best surprise appetizers I have ever had anywhere, so do try them out! If you like things, spicy, ask for a small side of their local chili, which is hotter than hell, and quite delicious!

The servers and manager were quite friendly, and filled me in on the details of their association with the building, which goes back over 100 years, back when it was a larger piece of property, including residential units.

Resist the temptation to go to the very pretty, and frankly a little boring eateries, right where the ships dock, and walk an extra hundred yards to Hemingways: you will be glad you did.

Looking for island food.
Found Hemingway’s and had great service and food. The conch fritters with the pepper jelly dip is a must try. You won’t be disappointed.
When I come back to St John, I’ll be coming back.

We ordered 2 lobster that were hard. We paid about 20% more than what they originally said (because of the weigh?)
They also forgot to bring one of the plates.
One of worst meals of our trip.

Great local place for fresh seafood. Watch out for pricing changes and last minute tax add ins. Food was great! Not much conch in the conch fritters, generous portion of Mahi was grilled perfectly. Grilled whole spiny lobster was yummy, but pricey at USD$60. Slow service overall, but you're on island time so it shouldn't matter.

We get to the restaurant at 7 and order food, the staff is really nice. At 8.20 we still waiting for our food which arrives after having requested for an update on timing for multiple times. After more than one hour my husband gets his food but he is obliged to eat alone because my plate was not ready yet and as such in the end I had to eat alone as my husband had already finished. We get the bill and would expect at least a small discount of it, a drink offered by the restaurant or a small thing to apologise for the terrible service but nothing. We paid US100 to eat alone after having waited more than one hour… very bad service and no care for customers!

Located upstairs the staff are welcoming and the atmosphere friendly. They offer excellent coffee and have a full breakfast menu. The blueberry pancakes are a must. We returned for lunch and sat outside on the covered terrace. A great range of reasonably priced items including burgers, blts, club sandwiches etc. Very close to the cruise ship dock.

Had a dinner on the balcony. Service was excellent. The prawns with coconut and lime were amazing, as was the curry. It was our first night and we willl eat there again. Loved it.

The only downside was the dessert was soooo good, I have to hit the gym an extra 2 days this week! Nice breeze sitting on the balcony; Excellent servers, good tasting food and display.

I'm sure this is the best resteraunt in Antigua.
From start to finish everything was so fresh and delicious.
Escargot was the best I have ever had.
Moscow mules made with real homemade ginger beer, it was incredible.

Dessert Creamy tangy Key Lime pie
And Banana splits Superb!
Also the staff was wonderful and attentive.
When your in antigua take a cab ride to Hemmingways.
It's worth it.
Also it's right by the cruise port
If your looking for a place to grab lunch when you get off the boat.
I will definitely return the next time I am on this Island

Overpriced and rip off. They charged $10 for water and $20 for 2 tiny pieces of fried dough for a starter. Avoid this tourist trap!

Wonderful food and service. Best grilled fish of the day I've had in a while. My children were very pleased with there beef burgers, that were so big they couldn't quite finish. Hopefully we will be able to return before we go home.

My wife and I had a wonderful lunch at Hemingways's. We met the owner, who graceously changed part of my order to accomodate me. We talked with her for a while and got to know a very interesting and dedicated person. Very dedicated to her staff and customers. Great food too. Loved the Creole fish!
